Why convert PNG to WebP?

WebP's lossless mode produces files 20–35% smaller than equivalent PNGs while preserving every pixel exactly — same image, fewer bytes. Its lossy mode (with alpha) goes much further, often shrinking PNGs by 60–80% with quality losses that are invisible at typical web viewing sizes.

Crucially, WebP keeps the alpha channel. Unlike JPG, you don't lose transparent backgrounds when you convert, which makes WebP a true drop-in replacement for PNG on the web. Logos, icons, UI elements, and product cutouts all convert cleanly.

Browser support is now universal — every major browser, including Safari and Edge, has supported WebP for years. There's no longer any reason to ship raw PNGs to web users when WebP gives you the same visual result for a fraction of the bandwidth.

PNG to WebP — Frequently Asked Questions

Is the PNG to WebP converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no signup, no credit card, no watermarks, and no file count limits. The full feature set is available without any account.

Are my PNG files private?

Yes. Files are stored in a private directory outside the web root, never shared with anyone, and deleted immediately after you download your ZIP.

How many PNG files can I convert at once?

Up to 20 PNG files per batch, with a maximum of 25 MB per file. There are no limits on the number of batches you can run.

Does the converted WebP keep the same image quality?

Quality is essentially indistinguishable from the PNG source at typical viewing sizes. WebP uses lossy compression, but the quality settings are tuned for high fidelity, so the conversion produces visually identical results for almost all images.

Will the WebP files work in Safari?

Yes. Safari has supported WebP since version 14.0 (released in 2020), and every other major browser has supported it for years. WebP is now safe to use as a primary web image format.
